Summer Sanitarium (2003-07-21 - 3:13 p.m.)

All I can say is that the Summer Sanitarium Tour was insane.

50 000 avid metal heads surging together to form a sea of defiance. The raw energy hovering over that crowd, which was too powerful to measure by conventional means, broke the moment Kirk played the first note of Battery. BOOM. The crowd exploded with sporadic mosh pits and fists thrown high overheadindex and pinky fingers extended in insolence. There was a general fuck you vibe to the scene that had everyone on edge, but it kept the entire afternoon in a frenzy of sorts. The tension and anticipation of waiting for the Real Show, and the heat of the summer sun were getting to everyone. We were all waiting for that moment that we came forthe real reason we all paid $100.00 for ticketsMetallica.

And they didnt disappoint one of us. They only played two songs from their new albumthe rest were all old school, head bang hard shit.

The one thing that I found surprising was the fact that most would expect a lot of violence in a situation like this. Long haired, Docs-up-to-your-knees, tattooed hodlums running around like wild animals. I assumed that massive fights, involving hundreds of people, would break out and consume us all in a cloud of leather and dust. But it wasnt like that. We were all here to have a good time, to enjoy what could have been an icons last appearance in our fair city.

This was the second time Ive seen Metallica live, and even after almost 7 years since the last time, they still amaze me. At the end of the show James (lead singer) hinted that theyd be back in spring for another show.

You can bet your ass that Ill be the first in line to by tickets. Fuckin A right!
